The 12th round of Border Districts Coordination Meeting (BDCM) between the Royal Government of Bhutan and the State Government of Assam was held at Guwahati from 22-23 December 2022. The Bhutanese delegation was led by Dasho Tashi Penjore, Director, Department of Law and Order, Ministry of Home and Cultural Affairs, Royal Government of Bhutan and the Indian delegation was led by Mr. Niraj Verma, IAS, Principal Secretary, Home and Political Department, State Government of Assam.

Since its inception in 1994, 11 rounds of BDCM were held and this is the 12th round. The 11th round of BDCM was held on 6-7 November 2019 at Thimphu, Bhutan.

This meeting covered a wide range of discussions pertaining to strengthening security and maintaining harmony along the Indo-Bhutan border areas in the Assam sector. Moreover, matters that impacts the lives of people living along either side of the border which are pertinent to trade, economy, drugs, environment and cross border criminal activities were also discussed. The meeting reviewed and mutually adopted measures to strengthen security arrangements along the Bhutan-Assam border to curb cross border criminal activities. Amongst others, the meeting also emphasized on furthering the existing close ties of friendship between the two countries which was built on the basis of trust and confidence and nurtured over the time.

The meeting also urged for real time information sharing between the counterparts to curb cross border illegal activities and emphasized on strengthening the existing information sharing mechanism.
